Dr. Rhett Mortenson (aka "Rhett the Vet") started Coombs Veterinary Hospital in the spring of 2008, after graduating from New Zealand's Massey University in 2006. Shortly after returning from New Zealand he and his family settled in Parksville and founded Coombs Veterinary Hospital.
His special interests include Ultrasound and Surgery, with a particular focus on Minimally Invasive and Orthopedic surgeries. In January 2021, Dr. Mortenson was accepted into the GPCert Small Animal Surgery program through the International School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies (ISVPS). He is currently working towards an advanced degree in Small Animal Surgery (GPCertSAS) in combination with a post-graduate Advanced Practitioner Certificate in small animal surgery from Harper Adams University.
He is married to his beautiful wife, Andrea, and lives in Coombs with their three children; Brooklynn, Kaylee and Jonah. Their fur family consists of 2 dogs (Teddy and Mildred), and 4 cats (Tiki, Captain, Pluto, and Pumpkin).
