Age is not a disease, but with age comes many common disease processes. Our geriatric pets often experience changes in organ function that require long-term management. These conditions are much easier to treat and manage when caught early. As such, we recommend blood work in all senior animals every 6-12 months.
Routine screening blood work for geriatric animals consists of 3 components:
1. CBC/Hematology - A count of the body's red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets as well as their ratios and characteristics. 2. Chemistry panel - A list of several parameters that help determine how well an animal's key organs are functioning, including the kidneys and liver. 3. Thyroid panel - The thyroid is key in maintaining an animal's well-being, and is often altered with age. |
During the month of November, Coombs Veterinary Hospital is offering
15% off screening blood work
for any animal over the age of 7
