Blood Work
Coombs Veterinary Hospital has recently installed a new in-house Idexx laboratory!
We are now able to offer blood, urine, and cell analysis in clinic using some of the most accurate technology in the veterinary industry.
This machine allows us to look at an animal's red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. |
The biochemistry panel created by this machine allows our CVH veterinarians to check the systemic function of a patient. Using this analyzer, we learn about the status of their liver, kidneys, glucose levels, electrolytes, and proteins. |
This machine can check PT/aPTT times. These values are especially important when dealing with bleeding disorders caused by such things as rat poisoning, or splenic tumors. |
Urinalysis
Urine sediment is tested for signs of infection, crystals, and cancerous cells. This analysis is classically performed by hand using a microscope. Our new SediVue machine accomplishes the same task in under 5 minutes from only 4-5 drops of fresh urine. It utilizes cutting-edge Neural Network facial recognition technology to identify cells with impressively consistent and accurate results. |
Urine chemistry strips detect the presence of glucose, ketones, proteins, and other chemicals in the urine. They also identify urine pH, which can be very important when dealing with urine crystals. The VetLab Analyzer reads these strips quickly and accurately. The final component of a urinalysis is the Urine Specific Gravity, which can be interpreted in conjunction with other tests to indicate kidney dysfunction. |
Fecal Flotation
Fecal flotations help us to identify parasite eggs and larvae,
which allows us to customize an internal parasite treatment and prevention protocol for your animal.
