Vaccinations
At Coombs Veterinary Hospital we believe that vaccinations are important to keep your animal happy and healthy, as well as to protect your human family, and others in the community. We like to find a balance between appropriate coverage and over-vaccination. As such, we recommend certain "Core" vaccines that should be continued in all animals, and offer others as optional choices based on your pet's life style and risk factors. Your veterinarian will discuss these risk factors with you during an Annual Health Examination to determine which vaccines are appropriate for your pet.

Rabbit Vaccines:
There is one vaccine routinely used in pet rabbits in Canada at this time - the VHD vaccine (to help protect against Viral Hemorrhagic Diarrhea, which is spread from the wild rabbit population and brings a high morbidity/mortality rate).
These vaccines are not made in Canada, and must be imported from Europe. Recently, the status of VHD has been changed to "endemic" in BC, and as such it is much more difficult to get these vaccines.
As a result of these changes, Coombs Veterinary Hospital has decided NOT to stock the VHD rabbit vaccines this year. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause. We encourage rabbit owners with outdoor bunnies to contact Island Veterinary Hospital in Nanaimo, as they may have a limited supply of vaccines available.
